Save the date: Duathlon (run-bike-run): Oct 3rd

Hey everyone!

I'm so excited to announce this exciting event, the inaugural DU Good duathlon (run-bike-run) scheduled to take place on October 3, 2009, in Ulysses, KS. Proceeds will benefit mom and another community member in need to assist with medical bills and ongoing payments!

What is so cool about this event is that it can be repurposed year after year with proceeds to benefit other community members in need, and it's introducing members of the community to untapped recreational opportunities within Frazier Park.

DU-ING THE MOST GOOD FOR OUR COMMUNITIES
The purpose of DU Good events is to assist community members in need. This year, DU Good Events will donate the proceeds from this event to Paulette Fort (mum). These funds will assist her in paying for medical bills resulting from treatments for bile duct cancer. The committee has contacted another community member who may be in need. See updates in the future regarding this individual. The main goal of this event is to raise money that will assist both parties with medical bills and on-going treatments. A secondary goal is discussed above, to set precedent for yearly events to benefit community members in need and utilize untapped resources in Ulysses.

I have to especially thank Melodie and Zak Weis for bringing this idea and concept to our attention and giving it life. As many of you know, mum takes particular joy in watching Thayne run marathons -- this is the perfect idea for enacting one of mom's favorite things to do, which is supporting healthy lifestyles and sporting events for people of all ages. We are so excited to participate as a family, and hope everyone else plans to join us! The more people, the better! Mark your calendars now, and stay posted for further details regarding registration, setting up teams, how to train, etc.
