IV is coming out

The docs were just in. Very pleased with her blood work, vitals, etc. They're taking her off IV to increase her nutritional levels. She's still moving so slow and they expect the brunt of her recovery to be 4 to 6 weeks. She had a rough, rough evening, having eaten her first meal of chicken noodle soup and vanilla milkshake. She developed severe cramping and it was painful to watch her. Mum has a high tolerance for pain, but she continually fell asleep (b/c that's what she does, as if narcoleptic) with a grimace on her face.

Yesterday, they transitioned her to oral meds, too, so once those kicked in, her pain simply fell to the ground like snowflakes.

I spent the night here snuggled up next to her. We have no roommate right now, so we shut the door and I only woke up once during bloodwork.Even though yesterday was challenging, she's giving us a few good laughs due to her meds. Of course, she's funny when clear-headed, but they clearly have her on "supremo" levels and I doubt she'll remember this week. Yesterday, she dreamt that Thayne and I were in here. She awoke and told Patsy that she'd heard Thayne talking, and that I'd said "mama" loud enough for her ears. Of course, neither of us were in the room.

And, today, while she sat and brushed her teeth, sitting on the edge of the bed and continually falling asleep, she saw two big raspberries in front of her.

As you can see, we're taking the humor anywhere we can get it.

  1. Good Morning, Paulette.

Progress is steady as she goes. This is becoming a delicate dance of adding this, taking away that, rearranging and fluffing your pillow, one, two, cha, cha, cha. One step at a time, one day at a time, one breath at a time. How wonderful to think of how much is now behind you, Paulette ... steps that don't have to be retraced and the "not knowing" days that were so challenging a couple of weeks ago are now mile markers that you've passed ... praise God that the high hurdles have been replaced with the low hurdles. Stay strong, dear lady. Seeing and hearing nonexistent things and falling asleep in the middle of exciting adventures such as brushing your teeth ... welcome to my 60-something reality, Paulette! In time those things will clear up for you because you're still young and will recover to normal as the meds are tapered off; I'm googling what might be out there in cyberspace to help me! Ben Gay, Miracle Ear (as though I want to hear what my neighbors are discussing!), tri-focals, and more fiber in my diet seem to be holding the most hope for a new normal for my age group!

Today's Joke: My husband complains that I never listen to him. Well, I think that's what he said.

Encouraging Words from I Peter, early verses from the Message -- "What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have Him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we've been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven -- and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you'll have it all -- life healed and whole."

Keep on keepin' on, Paulette. Prayers and love surround you every day.

    Caring about you,
    Joyce

  3. What wonderful news to wake to this lovely, cool, and damp morning in Ulysses! Keeping you in thought and prayer often each day; your nose should itch all the time as your name is frequently mentioned. Rest and good food are the best healers of all except for God, of course. Keep on keeping on and getting better each minute. God Bless you girl! Tammi

  4. Ma tres chere Paulette,

It's good to hear of your progress. Seems that hospitals are faster than a momma bird at kicking you out of the nest. Hope today was better than yesterday and that the food not only tasted good, but went down properly with no cramping.

Praying for everything you need to be supplied. God Bless!

    Bises !

    Susie

  5. Hope you had a good day. Sorry I am posting so late, busy day. Wanted to post earlier in the day but just didn't get it done. Hope you are still progressing good and that you didn't overdo it. Hope you were able to eat some more and sleep lots.

Hope Taryn and Greg have safe travels tomorrow.

Hope you have a good night and get lots of sleep!!

Oh by the way it is raining here this evening and has been for some time. It seemed to be spotty earlier but where it has rained it has rained a lot. Hope everyone got a little rain. We will take all that we can get, after all we live in Southwest Kansas. I have puddles in my driveway!

    Have a good night!

  6. Dear Paulette,

Bedtime here, probably bedtime in Minnesota, too. The raindrops are creating beautiful melodies right now as the wind pushes them against the glass panes on the south windows In the background there is a creative bass line provided by the gushing streams coming down the eave spouts to rush across the sidewalk. Shhh, I think I can hear the grass growing as it drinks in the welcome precipitation. Yes, Kansas soil is getting a good drink tonight.

I pray that your Tuesday was good, that you were able to walk some, eat some, laugh some, rest a bunch. God is stationing angels all around your bed tonight to give you good uninterrupted sleep and complete peace of mind.

    Good night, Paulette.

    Grace and Peace,
    Joyce

  7. Dear Paulette, We glad you are progressing so well after surgery. You're body has been beaten down so far in the last few months it is just going to take a while for it to get back to normal again. Do not be afraid of taking the pain meds so your body has more strength to fight this. Oh! Oh! Oh-no! Not again!! I can't help it Paulette it just won't stop!! Another memory!! Remember our road trip to Colorado? Claudia, you, me and Who else? Claudia asked her dad who had a car dealership in Ness City if we could borrow one to go to Colorado Springs. For some reason we wanted to go watch the FHSE boys play basketball there. We all took turns driving. Even I did when I had'nt driven that much and never in the mountains. I was afraid I was going to crash into the mountains. When we got there we went to the Sigma house where we had planned to stay the night, but either they did'nt seem that thrilled or we did not feel we had that much in common with them so we made our excuses and left. We changed into our new classy outfits and I will never forget stopping in the doorway of the gym to figure out where we were going to sit. The guys were doing lay-ups and as soon as we came in everyone of them absolutely gawked at us. It was thrilling! Claudia's ticket was called for the freethrow contest so Paulette you went down and actually got second place! 1st place was a gift certificate to a liquor store and 2nd was for a certificate to a dry cleaning store. You promptly traded the guy and later that night we went to our first drive-in liquor store. We got Wellers Bourbon which today I still consider the best. Bye, Bye, Paulette. Love Peggy and Dave

  8. Dear Paulette,

The door is just about to close on a Wednesday. I trust that it has been a good resting up, drinking down, and eating up and down kind of a day. Each day your body is gaining strength.

I am seeing lots and lots of yellow buttons around town; you and Susie must have worked night and day putting those together. Cool!

Keep your chin up, Paulette. We're all thinking about you and praying for you.
