Infection Part Deux
So, mom does indeed have an infection in the incision area. She saw a wound specialist yesterday who reopened the incision in two places (ugh) to let it drain, and took a culture. She's on antibiotics and wrapped up in saline gauze wraps. Mom goes back to see him in a week. She's also camped out with Nurse Patsy. :)I haven't yet talked to her today, so I'm not sure how she is. I can say she sounded better after the appointment, but she's up and down. Only two more days until we go yellow again.
One final note: it's often frustrating for me as I comb in the Internet for research and studies regarding bile duct and liver cancer. There simply are few to none. This morning, as I scoped for cancer recovery articles in our national medical publications database in the National Library of Medicine, there are simply zero to be found.
As I continue researching, I'm now turning to the consumer side of publications and the ever-fruitful Amazon. If anyone has good cancer recovery and recovery nutrition books that you recommend, please post their titles or an author today!
PS: I found one already! It's called: "The Cancer Recovery Eating Plan" by Daniel Nixon.

ReplyDeletePraise God for His faithfulness; praise Him for the faith He has produced within your heart, mind, and soul; praise Him for healing you; praise Him for the promises of His Word; praise Him for having made available to you caregivers who opened up their home in Denver to feed your body and encourage your heart before surgery and who came quickly and lovingly to Minnesota and who opened up their home and heart in Garden City to see you through this after-surgery jog in the road; praise Him for His love; praise Him for your medical team in Rochester that kept on keeping on to be effective participants in God's healing plan for you; praise Him for the sunrise and the sunset; praise Him for the sparkle in your husband's eye; praise Him for the laughter of family and friends; praise Him for the energy and enthusiasm of your children; praise Him for holding you close during the times that the wind and waves tossed your boat to and fro; praise Him for calming the storm; praise Him for the peace and encouragement He provided in spite of the stormy times; praise Him for all that He is and all that He means to you. What an incredible, awesome God! He loves you, Paulette -- and so do I.
Today's Joke:
I tell you, male drivers are a hazard to traffic. Driving to work this morning on the freeway, I looked over to my left, and there was this man doing 95 m.p.h. with his face up next to his rearview mirror -- shaving!
I looked away for a couple of seconds, and when I looked back, he was halfway in my lane. Scared me so bad I almost dropped by eyeliner pencil in my coffee!

We are praying for your body to respond quickly to the medication to clear up the infection.

Your infection news is not really what we want to hear, but we cannot let it steal anything from this moment, from this wonderful day God has made, from little birdies singing to start the day, from Patsy's smiling face and welcoming home, from those who check in on the blog and send their support.

Taryn, the Cancer Centers of America treated a friend of mine a few years ago. She had nothing but good to say about their integrative approach. They have a host of complimentary therapies which you may be able to tap into or perhaps they could direct you to other resources that can be utilized in coordination with the Mayo treatment. (I'm a bit surprised that Mayo does not offer a more rounded plan.)

I noticed on their website just now, an interesting liver survivor story. There is an 800# and a live chat. One of the hospitals in Tulsa. Worth a phone call?
I have heard Robin McGraw's book, What's age got to do with it? Is good don't know if it's what your looking for. Also www.crossings.com has alot of spirutal books about mind, body and nutritional health. Paulette we are so glad to know you are back in our neck of the woods (or plains might better describe it). ReplyDeleteI use cancercare.org so much I almost forget not everyone knows about it. This website has wonderful support groups for caregivers and cancer patients online--and these are monitored by oncology social workers. They also have financial information and lots of networking about treatment plans from all over the country. Check it out. I have been a member of a caregiver's support group with them for over two years--it helps. Love and Prayers, Lisa

ReplyDeletePraise God that you're back in Kansas and recuperating on schedule. Every day your body is gaining strength with God's healing touch. Your heart is strong with trust in the wisdom of His Word with its promises that spring hope anew in our hearts as we continue to rejoice in His grace and encouragement. There is not one thing that He has overlooked in touching your body with His healing power. We trust Him by choice, we trust His Word by choice, we praise Him on purpose for His faithfulness. The darkness is swallowed by His light every morning -- the Son explodes across the horizon as our soul soars with the Father's everlasting love and grace. We quiet ourselves to hear His voice of assurance throughout the day. And in the waning hours of each day, we look to the west to see His creative beauty in the fading away of the daylight, reminding us that it is His will that we rest our bodies with His peace through the night. ReplyDeleteHope this gorgeous Colorado weather is extending into KS this morning! But, of course, it's the time of year when farmers want the blazing sun to do it's part for the wheat crop. So we tolerate the heat and wind in western KS :>) because it's our "bread" and butter, so to speak. There is a reward at the end of the day! Beautiful as the mountains are, they ensure that Denver will never have a sunset like those in KS.
