TGFF

I'm making up a new abbreviation spin-off of TGIF, because as wonderful as Friday's are, family is even better!

So today... I'm TGFF-ing: Thanking God For Family.

Not only are both sides of our family coming together and rallying relentlessly for momma's recovery, but everyone has been willing to inconvenience their daily lives to make hers a little easier. This week, mom's been lucky to have lots of family around her, in particular my Aunt Deb, who has been the daily lunch and dinner elf... she's been cooking and baking food so my momma stays stuffed and happy out on her back deck in the sunshine. She's thoughtfully checking in at just the right times... "Need a little ice cream?" Bam! It magically appears! "Salivating for some chicken noodles?" Kabam! Sitting in a bowl in front of you! Mom is grateful for it. She told me so. She did.

Plus, Jon and Patsy were the t-bone elves over this past weekend... Poof! We woke up on Sunday and there were t-bones and potatoes of delight (you guys better go bid on those ribs, b/c you have no idea what you're missing).

Clearly, mom is the central hub for food in our families. Potatoes and cookies are our bond and glue.

As if you're not hungry enough by now, just a reminder that today's silent auction is over at 4 pm CT! I hear it's been a huge, smashing success and will bring lots of much needed support to this insane few weeks and months ahead of us.

Hoping everyone is enjoying a nice, pre-summer day. Enjoy these pics of the silent auction, too.

  1. Good Morning, Paulette.

Saturday is about to make its glorious debut, and soon the quiet cool morning air will become filled with the common wake-up sounds of our neighborhood. But right now it is wonderfully silent with just a few "early birds" beginning to chatter about coffee and a donut (I'm just guessing!). By mid morning the sun will be bright and the quiet that is exquisitely decorating the air will have to be sought to be found. And so another day goes from a mere thought in God's mind to become our reality. The world will be a-buzz with activities, and we will have to get in gear so we don't miss out ... or get run over by the crowd hurrying to enjoy their Saturday. Lord, quiet me to hear Your voice today. Help me to slow down so I don't run ahead of You and totally miss the blessings You have planned for my Saturday.

One of my favorite quotes that my mom has displayed on her kitchen wall directly above her table goes like this: "God doesn't give us what we can handle; God helps us handle what we are given." That goes along with the popular "Footprints" poem that reminds us that God is with us non-stop in an all-encompassing way ... ahead of us to guide us, beside us with His arm of protection around our shoulder, and literally carrying us safely around the all too many landmines of this life. Never alone ... wow, that is such a mantle of hope. You are never alone, Paulette.

    Today's Joke:
A blonde was playing Trivial Pursuit. When her turn came around, she rolled the dice and landed on "Science and Nature."
The question was "If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?"
With a thoughtful look she asked, "Is it on or off?"

God’s promise of love from Ezekiel 36:9 -- “I am concerned for you, Paulette, and will look on you with favor.” In God We Trust.

God bless you and Greg as you begin your road trip from the flatlands of southwest Kansas, through the farmland of Iowa, and to southern Minnesota alive with spring colors.

    With thoughts and prayers,
    Joyce

  2. Good Morning Paulette and Greg,

The task ahead of us is never as great as the power behind us. (Anonymous)

Know that as you leave KS today an "army" of us are really in that car... loving, laughing, enjoying the scenery, (we'll go dutch when we stop to eat), and praying.

And you can be sure I'm taking you to the Ball Park Flea Market this morning. I'll let you know what "we" found later :>)

God be with you every mile of the way.

    LOVE YOU

    Susie

  3. Dear Paulette,

It has been awhile since I wrote you a note. Too busy at work, you know end of the year evaluations, state testing and school activities. Garrison's school was shut down for three days because of the swine flu. I guess we should have come for the t-bones last weekend.
We want to wish you a Happy Mothers Day. You have been a great mother to two wonderful children.
We all wish you a safe trip. You are always in our thoughts and prayers.
    Take Care,
    The Roberts
