Surgery booked!

Mom's resection is scheduled for Friday, May 29. Her nurse coordinator just called with the news -- her surgeon reviewed the computations on liver size and her lefty is 30% or more, so she's big enough to get through.

Laparoscopy is first. As long as there is no cancer in the stomach lining, the resection will take place immediately. Next Friday is going to be the biggest GO YELLOW Friday thus far.

Better plan to paint your houses yellow and hold Go Yellow parties and stuff, guys. Ha ha.

  1. Good Morning Paulette, Taryn (Greg & Thayne),

Father Tim in Jan Karon's Mitford Series is forever saying "Consider it done!" It's a comforting phrase.

So today, we are comforted. We have yesterday's news of a direction and this morning's news of the surgery being scheduled. Our Good Lord is working, working, blessing, blessing. We offer a prayer of thanksgiving and rest in a new kind of peace today.

    Loves & Hugs,
    Susie

  4. Can the heart sing?
    I think mine just did!

I was driving along to do some chores the other day and while switching the radio button to get away from gibberish I found a lovely rendition of "How Great Thou Art"...it was the swelling cadence that was so restful and calming and I found myself humming along oblivious and uncaring if some passersby were ready to call for back-up.
There have been times when I've stopped for a red light and was delighted to see the driver in the car next to me singing up a storm and I would smile to see someone that happy.
It's kinda hard to sing and frown at the same time.

The hurdle of the liver size is over.
Special prayers for containment and guidance of the skilled surgeon's hands!

That'll bring a lot of smiles and thankfulness!

  7. Dear Paulette and Greg, What good news! We think of you everyday. I've been thinking about all the good times we had a few? years ago. Remember when we were trying to find some sisters on a pledge sneak and we got sideswiped in your mustang on the north side of campus? We had a liquor bottle from the night before in the back seat (Wellers, I believe-only the best!) and you told me to get rid of it before the police came. So I opened the door and dropped it--right next to the door and of course it broke. Of course it smelled like a brewery and I'm sure you could only shake your head at how dumb I was. But the policeman never said a thing. About all you had to do was smile and bat your eyes and he didn't even notice. Think positive, be strong and GET WELL! Love, Peggy and Dave

  9. Dear Paulette,

What great news! It seems that it's taken so long to chart a plan of action, but now it's a matter of gittin' er done!! Glad your left liver made the grade ... now we can get this here show on the road.

God is in control, and He is going to use the next week to strengthen your body and deepen your trust in His promises. He will not let you down. You are in the thoughts and prayers of hundreds of people.

    Chin up, Paulette.

    Grace and Peace in Him,
    Joyce

  10. Good Morning, Paulette,

Hey, it's Friday ... and you're one day closer to good health. Remember those maze puzzles in which the puppy needed to find his way to his food dish or the little boy wanted to ride his bike from his house to the playground or some such thing? (Do people even use this phrase anymore? It was a popular one on the wagon train coming across to settle the west!) Well, here you are looking at a maze puzzle to get from your starting point to your kitchen baking cookies (yellow apron, of course) and enjoying good health. Hey, but lookee here, the maze isn't a maze at all ... do you see the yellow brick trail that avoids every blocked choice to lead you straight through with no delays, no backtracking, no hesitation to the "you are there" victory square? Trust yourself to follow the yellow, my friend. It is God's golden flashlight leading you through.

Encouraging words from Psalm 139:17-18: "How precious it is, Lord, to realize that You are thinking about me constantly! I can't even count how many times a day Your thoughts turn towards me. And when I waken in the morning, You are still thinking of me!"

Have a great Friday. Relax and enjoy the weekend. Keep smiling, Paulette. Hi to Taryn; thank you for your updates.

  12. Paulette,
Such good news for you. We couldn't be happier that there is a Plan! We are hoping that the surgery will go without a hitch! Hang in there one more week.

This morning is actually nice today, so far the wind is gentle and is making a nice cool breeze. We are hoping the forcasters are right and we will get some much needed rain. The last few days of high winds and temps are drying us up fast.

Eat and Eat some more on this great Memorial Day weekend and store up all that strength for the coming weeks. Have a good relaxing weekend!

  13. I've always liked the color yellow. It's so bright and cheery, just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy! I can't think of a more appropriate color theme as you all (with us right beside you) prepare for this leg of your journey.

I know you've had so much to learn, digest and experience. I'm sure you're apprehensive and scared; who wouldn't be? I also know that our God in Heaven has you in the palm of his hand, and he will carry you every step of the way. The way things have seemed to fallen in to place is no coincidence, but rather orchestrated by Him.

Thanks Taryn for all the updates. Your love for your momma is so apparent in every word you write.

May God give all of you a peace that only He can so that you can spend the next few days enjoying each others' company; laughing, relaxing and spending time together.

It has been awhile since I have had a chance to write. I have been able to follow the blog. Taryn does a great job of explaining everything.
Sounds like the medical people have a plan for you. I know that gives you comfort.
You are always in my thoughts and prayers. I will keep those Hail Marys coming your way.
    Take care,

  18. Good Monday Morning, Paulette and Family --

Here we are on a Holiday Monday that is commemorating Memorial Day, which is actually this coming Saturday. Isn't it interesting how in all of our wisdom, we have decided that history needs to be rewritten to take in the value of three-day weekends! Now, on the other hand, our founding fathers are smirking because what can be done about "Fourth of July"? Duh! They have the last laugh there!

I trust that you all are having a relaxing weekend. Paulette, I know that your body is becoming stronger each day. Keep eating just a couple more bites than you really think you want. Soak up the sunshine of southern Minnesota, keep your umbrella handy in case it rains, and then after the rain, take a walk and go ahead, what the heck, splash through the puddles ... better yet, go barefoot. Enjoy!

    Today's Joke:
A blonde was terribly overweight, so her doctor put her on a diet. "I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, repeat this procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you'll be at least five pounds lighter."
When the blonde returned two weeks later, the doctor was shocked when she got on the scale. She had lost nearly 20 pounds.
"Why, that's amazing!" the doctor said. "Did you follow my instructions?"
The blonde nodded, then added, "I'll tell you, though, I thought I was going to drop dead every third day."
    "From hunger?" asked the doctor.
    "No, from skipping."

Encouraging Words in Romans 8:25, 28 -- "But if we must keep trusting God for something that hasn't happened yet, it teaches us to wait patiently and confidently. And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into His plans."

Paulette, God loves you ... and so do I. Lots and lots of people are praying for you.

    Caring about you,
    Joyce
