A long, but healthy weekend

While hubzo and I traveled to Kansas on Friday for Jai and Marc's wedding, Mums and dad flew back to Denver. They spent the night in Denver and headed back home on Saturday. I shuffled between wedding photos and the wedding on Saturday afternoon and managed to spend an hour with them at home. I knew mom was feeling better when she walked in and immediately insisted on repairing the broken hook-and-eye at the top of my dress. Yep, she sewed me into my dress and sent me off to watch the happy couple get hitched. You've no idea how happy it made me that she wanted and had the strength to do that!

Later that night, hubzo and I returned, quite late, after a wonderful wedding and reunion amongst many of my dear friends from childhood. As always, she waited for us to get home before going to sleep. She was sad to miss the wedding, so I filled her in on all the details while she warmed breakfast burritos for me. As many of you know, my mum's kitchen is burrito central when we're at home visiting. It was nice to have that small sense of normalcy.

Mom is looking better and less yellow. Her external drain is shut down (on purpose), so she's moving much easier. I was so excited to check out the silent auction taking place at Golden Plains... what an amazing sight it was! So many generous folks have shown their support. I eagerly placed bids on a few items (and asked my Aunt Deb to keep watch over one particular John Wayne item that hubzo desperately wants). Tee hee.

We have many tasks ahead of us this week. Namely, we must find somewhere to temporarily live in Rochester. Before heading back to Denver yesterday, we had a family pow-wow to discuss how to get through the next month. Mom needs someone with her all the time, so we'll divide that responsibility up amongst family members and close friends.

She'll have this week of relaxation before heading back to Mayo this coming weekend to start a lengthy round of pre-transplant testing. Keeping fingers crossed that her case is approved by the transplant board later this week.

For now, we want her to sleep and stay low-key...

  2. Good afternoon, Paulette.

How great for you to be home settled in for a week of rest and relaxation before going back to your temporary "home away from home" in Rochester.

I think you brought the sunshine with you because "finally" we're having sunny skies today with continuing sunshine forecast for this week. Hope you can sit out in your backyard to soak up some healthy rays of sunshine. Breathe in the fresh air, listen to the chatter of the choir of robins ... all gifts from God just for you.

    Today's Joke:
The good-humored boss was compelled to call his delinquent employee into his office.
"It has not escaped my attention," the boss pointed out, "that every time there's a home game at the stadium you have to take your aunt to the doctor."
"You know you're right, sir," exclaimed the sports fan. "You don't suppose she's faking it, do you?"

Encouraging Words from Isaiah 35:4 -- "Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation."

I am wearing my new yellow tee shirts this week in support of your journey to health, Paulette. Hey, girlfriend, I didn't realize before just how cute yellow looks on me. tee, hee

God loves you, Paulette ... and I care very much.

    Thinking of you,
    Joyce

  3. Hellooooo..... Paulette, it was so good to see you this weekend when I was in town. It had been so long since I had been to your house, but yet as soon as I walked in the door I felt like I was at home! I remember spending sooooo many nights in that house when I was younger and so many other memories came flooding back to me. You were the first person to make me scrambled eggs with cheese on them (and I still eat them today....and I make them for my boys) and I remember you were a little mad when I decided to cut Taryn's hair when we were little too. I have so many memories of my childhood in Kansas and Taryn and you, Paulette, were in many of them. You WERE like a Mom to me on many occasions and I totally appreciate you for that! I know that you love to be there and support everyone, and right now, we get to pay you back and be there to support you. I know that you're in a long, dark tunnel but there IS a light at the end and I just know that you will be standing (or rather dancing) in that light real soon! I, along with everybody else who loves you, will be thinking about you and supporting you every step of the way!
    Love ya!

  4. Good Morning, Paulette.

I'm not too high tech. Just now I tried to write a comment on Taryn's post earlier this morning, but when I tried to post my comment, the blog site when ballistic and knocked me out cold. Now I can't seem to get to her post from this morning at all. Cyberspace and joycespace don't seem to be compatible this morning ... ha, ha

So .... I'll see if I can comment on this earlier post. Wish me luck.

Here's what I remember of what I wrote ... probably not too accurate because I sipped some cold coffee between then until now.

The misty morning of the early hours of Wednesday has given way to bright sunshine. The fogginess we tried to peer through earlier has been swept away by the hand of God to give us clear vision into what will be a great day, ordinary in some ways but surely extraordinary in other ways.

I am praying for you this morning, Paulette, asking God to grant you approval by the transplant board. God is there in the hearts and minds of those individuals who are making such important decisions day as they undoubtedly make every day. God is crossing the t's and dotting the i's to put all things in order for His glory and your good health.

I listened to a message this morning that really touched me. Perhaps it will be meaningful to you as well ...

Five things to say when facing life events that don't seem to make a lick of sense or don't seem to be fair as they're unfolding:
    (1) I love You, Lord; and I believe that You love me.
    (2) I trust You, Lord.
    (3) You are in control, Lord.
    (4) Lord, I refuse to be afraid.
    (5) All things work together for my good because I love you, Lord, and am called according to Your purpose.

    Today's Joke:
A man and his wife were having some problems at home, culminating in the silent treatment. This continued through the weekend. When the husband tried to set the alarm clock for the next morning, it didn't work. Since his wife always got up first, he needed her to wake him at 5:00 a.m. for a morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence, he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 a.m."
The next morning the man woke up at 7:00 a.m. Furious, he was about to yell at his wife when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It's 5:00 a.m. Wake up!"

Encouraging words from Isaiah 40:31 -- "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength."

    Have a great Wednesday, Paulette.

    Caring about you,
    Joyce
