Slurpin' noodles

I received the funniest e-mail yesterday morning from my mom's brother about how she stood near the bubbling chicken noodle pot picking out individual noodles and slurping them down. This, after a big ole' bowl of the soup. A coup!

Mums had an afternoon travail of blood work yesterday, but sounds better than ever. I'll let Susie elaborate since she's taken over as the #1 mom looker-afterer.

With another Mayo trip hovering, my dad and mom will fly back to Minneapolis this weekend and prep for a Monday full of radiology and doctor meetings.

  1. Good Morning, Paulette -- and Hi to all of you wonderful care-givers encouraging Paulette today. Keep up the good work; every day is a day that your body is stronger as it prepares to undergo whatever your medical team decides is best for your recovery. Enjoy your last couple of days in Denver ... what a blessing to be among such loving, caring people.

    Today's Joke:
A husband and wife were at a party talking with some friends when the subject of marriage counseling came up.
"Oh, we'll never need that. My husband and I have a great relationship," the wife explained. "He was a communications major in college and I majored in theater. He communicates very well, and I just act like I'm listening."

    Follow-up Joke:
I overheard my husband telling his buddy: "My wife complains that I never listen to her. Well, wait a minute, I think that's what she said."

Encouraging words from II Corinthians 4:8 -- "We are pressed on every side by trouble, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don't know why things happen as they do. But we don't give up and quit."

Thinking about you, praying for you, and caring,
    Joyce

  3. Nature did give us a pleasant surprise today aided by an unusual gentle 2-day rain that blanketed the countryside like no sprinkler can & awakening my ailing lilac bushes... greening up and hopeful for blossoms for May Day baskets.
A few grape hyacinths took a breath after years of neglect and the day lilies that Paulette helped me choose in Manhattan after Travis' graduation sprung up like winners.
And it's a better day to hear that the Master Noodle Maker is sprouting muscles from NOODLES!
This Christmas in a quandry of what to get my grandchildren....knowing nothing about electronics, style, even sizes or wants and all out of family geneology I thought about the Noodle Maker with hints like "Paulette, is your noodle maker still hiding out in the closet?" to bolder "I think the kiddos would love big baskets of homemade noodles..."
And so I am sure when I finally decided that they had all met Shafer Hall and would love his book "Never Cry Wolf" there was relief.
So here's to the healing powers of noodles...great with chicken and broth!

Paulette-y, how many umbrellas you got?

  4. Paulette,
Garrison asked me to say "hi." He also said he was sorry you are sick and hopes you get better. He misses the popcorn you kept for him in your desk. We are reading the the blog. The news from Denver seems better everyday.

    Take care,
    Bill #2

  6. Good Morning, Paulette. On the road again, winding your way back to the land of Ole and Sven, polka-land, and the lovely people of Rochester, Minnesota, and particularly the medical experts at the Mayo Clinic. Your medical team is preparing the creme de creme [sorry if I butchered that cool sounding phrase] of treatments to restore your good health. Our prayers are with you all.

    Today's Joke:

Two men walked into a diner that looked as though it had seen better days. Before sitting down in the booth, the younger man brushed crumbs off the seat. Then he took a napkin and wiped some ketchup off the table.

The waitress came over and asked if they wanted menus. "No, thanks," said the older man. "I'll just have a cup of black coffee."

"I'll have black coffee, too," the younger man said. Then he added snippily, "And make sure the cup is clean."

The waitress shot him a nasty look before marching off into the kitchen.

Two minutes later, she was back.

"Two cups of black coffee," she announced curtly. "Which one of you wanted the clean cup?"

Encouraging words from Philippians 4:6-7 -- "Don't worry about anything, Paulette; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your heart quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus."

You are a much loved lady, Paulette. God is good, and He is taking care of you and the concerns of your heart.

    Caring about you,
    Joyce
